Just five months before the Oil Embargo of 1973, four OPEC nations halted exports for a 24-hour period to protest the 25th anniversary of Israel's statehood. No one believes that a long-term embargo will occur, however, and the Israeli foreign minister is quoted as saying, "There isn't the slightest possibility that the Arab countries would withhold oil from the United States."
