Description
An account of the resource
Middlebury Unmasked is a survivor-created, survivor-led activist collective at Middlebury that was started in 2015. This collective published a video-narrative project about reporting sexual violence at Middlebury on YouTube on March 10, 2015. The video included the voices and stories of Middlebury survivors, who held cardboard cutouts of other student’s faces for the purpose of anonymity. These students discussed their negative experience of the Title IX process at Middlebury, and made demands to improve the system. The group's goal was simple, “To tell the very stories that campus policy has forbidden many of us to discuss.” In doing so, these students hoped to urge others to critically discuss and examine the Title IX process, as well as to hold the college and Title IX to a higher standard. The Middlebury Unmasked video was produced by Maddie Orcutt ’16 and Michelle Peng '15 and later covered by local news.
