An account of the resource
This opinion piece discusses a sexist "art" exhibit on the north wall of The Mill (recently known as ZetaPsi). The art exhibit consists of a barbed fish hook, hung in place of the recently removed greek symbol, that stretches down two stories. At the bottom there are two pin-ups of tanned, scantily clad women in suggestive poses, and the fish hook wraps tightly around one of them. The author, who described a confrontation she had with the artist who made the fish hook, explains how the installation reflects badly on the entire Middlebury community and that passers-by should not be forced to look at it. She states that even if the pin-up women "came" with the house, that the change from Greek house to Social house warrants a change in decoration. Here is the article from The Campus' archives, as well as a photo of the article as it was originally printed.

What better way to learn about feminist activism at Middlebury than from the activists themselves. After all, there is so much to be learned and gained through engaging with the perspectives and experiences of those who came before you. Here is a collection of interviews (audio and transcriptions) about the lives, triumphs, inspirations, challenges, and projects of Middlebury activists through the ages.

Description
An account of the resource
Stares and Stairs was a performance activism group formed in January of 2016 by Morgan Grady-Benson ‘18, Chi Chi Chang ‘18, Nell Sather ‘19, and Liz Dunn ‘18. After taking Lida Winfield’s J-term class, “Radical Humanity: Performance and Social Activism,” this group of students decided to challenge the culture of sexual assault on Middlebury’s campus through performance activism. Their estimated 10-12 performances between winter 2016 and spring 2018 took place in active party spaces; Atwater Suites, Social Houses, the Spring Concert, and an attempted performance at the Rites of Spring [An invite-only party held every spring by Middlebury’s secret societies/fraternities]. During performances four “performers” would stand spread out on a flight of stairs, in various states of undress, handprints in purple paint on their skin, not engaging verbally with those passing by and holding signs that read “I’m not asking for it,” “I’m still not asking for it,” and “Sexual assault leaves a mark.” Accompanying the “performers” were the “bodyguards” who engaged with audience members, managed their reactions in order to maintain a safe environment, and passed out slips of paper that gave information about the group, educational materials, and the date and time of their routine post-performance debrief and reflection discussion.

Description
An account of the resource
This blog post was written by an anonymous performer after an instillation at the Mill, a social house on campus. In this piece the author talks about their experience performing and critiques the Mill which, despite it's alternative reputation, continues to represent a problematic culture of violence and oppression on campus instead of challenge it. This post upset members of the Mill, who requested it be taken down. Stares and Stairs posted this to their website on February 25, 2017.
